The Rose Headed Nail is a little craft business two of us started as a way to share our crafts with people. We mostly work in leather and wood but sometimes throw in other things when it seems right or fun. We make our goods in what free time we can scrape together in Owatonna, MN and sell at craft fairs nearby. We also take orders and custom requests on-line.
Now here is the wordy version for the adventurous…
In the immortal words of Paul Simon, “You can call me Al” I started woodworking as a hobby back in the 90s, yep, I’m old. I started working with leather about 10 years ago. Wood and leather have a lot of similarities, and they are excellent excuses for collecting old tools. My friend Sean also makes beautiful things out of leather. We said that someday we should attend a craft fair. Our someday came when I built a craft show display for quilting family members. Instead of charging them, we asked for a table in their booth and that’s where we started.
This is a side gig for both of us, we work in our garages, sometimes together, sometimes separate, almost always to music. We make things like purses and wallets that appeal to everyone, but you can see our hobbies and passions in our inventory. Hiking, fishing, guitars, coffee, and drawing are all represented. All our things are made by hand one at a time so it’s easy for us to customize them, change the size or the color, add letters or tooling etc. We are not tied to templates and patterns, when someone wants something totally unique, we can design and make it from scratch. “Back to the drawing board” usually means something failed, for me it means a trip downstairs to a happy place. 
(For any fellow drafting nerds, that’s an old Vemco). We really shine when you are looking for something you just can’t find. Maybe it’s a new leather cover for your treasured antique ice auger or a tool roll with custom pockets for a set of special tools. When you get something made just for you it often becomes a very valued thing and we take a lot of pride in making those.
